Stiffkey Artist Sophia Williams

I'm Sophia Williams and I paint from my studio on Riverbank in Stiffkey. Most of my subjects are a short walk from the door. Pinkfeet come in over the marsh at sunset. A kingfisher shoots up the River Stiffkey if you happen to be looking.

How I paint

I call it the natural eye. When we spot something, our whole focus goes to watching it. Everything else softens but stays in our awareness. Getting lost in a bird's flight is the moment I try to get down in oil.

Stiffkey wildlife at NR23

Three of my Stiffkey wildlife paintings hung at the NR23 exhibition, all painted from home. Each is sold in a solid wood frame for £495. Sound of the Pinkfeet at Sunset is the one I can hear before I see.
